Social media strategy: growing your online audiences

Social media has been recognised for some time as a legitimate means of business communication, and realising the importance of this medium, the Guardian is pleased to announce a new social media seminar, 'Social media strategy: growing your online audiences'
As social media becomes ubiquitous, online spaces are becoming more increasingly noisy marketplaces. With trust in advertising at 14% and peer to peer recommendation at 90% having an engagement strategy in which you grow and converse with your audiences is becoming more and more critical.
This workshop, targeted for communicators, will help you to understand:
- How do you set your organisational and campaign objectives for social media?
- How do you encourage greater engagement in your online footprint?
- How do you grow your online audiences so that your messages have a greater reach and you can take advantage of social shareability?
Led by Guardian digital strategist Tiffany St James, the seminar aims to answer these questions and more, giving you an audience-engagement strategy that helps achieve your business, project or campaign objectives.

Tiffany St James, Director of Stimulation Ltd - Chair
Tiffany is the former Head of Public Participation for the UK Government, the first role of this kind in the UK. She was responsible for ensuring the UK government made measurable progress in how it engaged with the public online in order to deliver better public services.
She launched data.gov.uk working with Cabinet Office and Sir Tim Berners-Lee and was the first Communications Director of Direct.gov.uk.
Tiffany currently serves as a digital strategist for AEGON, Channel 4, The Guardian and Microsoft embedding organisational digital capability as well as speaking on technology and social media internationally, training and curating digital expert panels.
She helped launch advertising's first managed service social media lab for EURO RSCG earlier this year.
Tiffany advises The Speaker of the House of Commons on Public Engagement to make the House and democracy matter more to people today and is an Executive Director of the British Interactive Media Association.
She launced SoAmpd providing social media integration for live events.
Gemma Went, Social Media Consultant
With over a decade's worth of experience in marketing and PR, Gemma's focus is on using social technology to engage and share stories with people on and offline. Working across B2C and B2B with a range of brands including Soap and Glory, Newcastle Brown Ale, Birra Moretti and some wonderfully diverse SME's, Gemma is a seasoned social media entrepreneur, speaker, panellist and blogger and one of the few professionals who have held a role as Social Media Director in an integrated, advertising agency. She is GemmaWent on most social channels.
